COMMUNITY ACTIVISM

Some research shows that young Australians are the group most likely to give up their time to help others or volunteer in their community.

We also have power as voters:

Young Australians have also been described as "the wild cards" in the Australian electoral game due to our power to influence elections.

Pledge to Vote

Here's the problem.

When it comes to influencing change through "formal democratic processes" like voting, meeting with an MP or influencing policy, we are consistently underrepresented (we're not rocking up).

These are critical processes that allow us to influence the conditions for all of the issues we care about.

NATIONAL ELECTIONS

Despite youth enrolment reaching a historical high at the 2019 election, voter participation was lowest in areas with high youth populations.

LOCAL ELECTIONS

This trend gets worse at a state and local government level, where youth voter participation is often at 30% or less.

MEET WITH YOUR MP

We've all heard of this but how many of us have done it (hint: not many, especially not consistently). We have power but we aren't channelling it.

Pledge to Vote

Our faith in democracy is in rapid decline, largely due to feeling like our voices aren't represented but as Alexander Woollcott once said:

"I'm tired of hearing it said that democracy doesn't work. Of course it doesn't work.
We are supposed to work it."

JOIN US TO MOBILISE OUR POWER FOR A STRONGER DEMOCRACY.

We're calling on young Australians to 'Pledge to Vote' so we can harness our power to influence the structures & conditions that affect the issues you care about.
